As Australia's erstwhile security guarantor urged Australia on in its escalating conflict with China, the Americans have happily noted the significant expansion of their capacity to export agricultural products to the China market.
This extract, from an October 2020 report from the Office of the United States Trade Representative and the US Department of Agriculture, highlights the situation in relation to meat, and beef specifically. Since the signing of the Trade Agreement (Part 1) between China and the USA, approved meat export facilities has increased from 1,500 to 4,000. Of these, there are 492 eligible beef abattoirs.
Meanwhile, 5 of Australia's abattoirs were suspended.
